Beach wear checklist

Remember the sound of the surf, not your hotel room

It’s time for the beach, and like going to a party, you’ll want to look good among several hundred other people. Want to stand out while sunbathing? Don’t wish to trek back to your car or hotel room, which could be several blocks away? To spend all day in the outdoors without needlessly tracking back to your room, you need to know what beachwear to pack.

  1. Bathing Suit: As there are so many different types of suits, it may be quite difficult to find just the right one. If you’ll mainly be swimming, consider a 1 piece with a high polyester content – it’s stronger than Lycra and more resistant to chemicals. If you’ll mainly be tanning, go for a bikini. If you wish to swim, suntan, and play sports, consider a tan through swimsuit.
  2. Sunscreen: If you’re good at tanning, wear a lower number (about SPF 8-12), as you’ll then control how fast you tan. If you swim a lot, don’t wish to tan, or don’t tan well, a much higher SPF sun lotion will need to be slapped on.
  3. Beach Bag: Well, you need something to store all your stuff in, right? A small back pack or carry-on will do nicely.
  4. Sunglasses: You won’t just look cool in them, you will be cool. Make sure you get glasses that are UVA and UVB blocking. These are the rays that damage your skin, as well as your eyes. Your eyes need just as much protection as the rest of your body.
  5. Hat: It doesn’t have to be your grandmother’s wicker hat, but a cap or kerchief to cover your head will protect you from sunstroke, especially if you’ll be in the sun for a long time.
  6. Flip-flops for the beach: Fashionable, sexy, and easy to clean and remove in the sand. However, if you’re planning to do a lot of walking later on, then
  7. A good pair of walking shoes: Flip flops don’t have the support that a pair of walking shoes have. If you’re ready to tour the town, stow the flip-flops in your beach bag.
  8. Beach Shorts and a t-shirt: Most shops and restaurants away from the beach don’t allow you to wear only bathing suits, so a nice set of shorts and a t-shirt can easily be slipped on when going somewhere to eat or shop.
  9. Light jacket: If you’re not planning to go back to your hotel room till later in the evening, a light jacket may be needed. Even in Mexico, the Caribbean or Florida on winter break, nights can be chilly. If in doubt, check the weather for the day.
